About Me

Ever since I was old enough to hold a pen in my awkward 5-year-old fingers, I have loved putting my thoughts down on paper in the form of poetry. When I was very young, I wrote about childish things like climbing trees and scraping my knees. As I lived through adolescence, I wrote about love and heartbreak and God. And now that I'm older I've rediscovered the wonder of the world, and most often I try to capture that wonder from a child's perspective.

The children I write for are of varying ages, from toddlers to teenagers. Because of this, my writing is just as varied! I write about imaginary dragons, basement monsters, beautiful things, gross things, goofy things, and yes, even love and heartbreak and God. Because those are some of the things that make up the strange and complicated world of a child.

I never want to forget what that world is like. And I won't, as long as I keep writing poetry and books for kids.

My first book, WHAT ABOUT MOOSE?, which I co-wrote with Corey Rosen Schwartz, is a rhyming picture book for kids 4-8, published in the summer of 2015 by Atheneum Books for Young Readers.

You can also find me now and then in the pages of Highlights for Children (most recently the February 2013 issue -- read my poem here), Pockets, and the Fun for Kidz magazines. Or you can do a search here on my site for poetry or rhyme and you'll find some fun stuff that way.

I am a member of the Society of Children's Book Authors and Illustrators, and am represented by Pam van Hylckama Vlieg of D4EO Literary Agency.

And here are some things about me that have little or nothing directly to do with my writing:

  • I am married to my true love and we have three great kids (yes, I have to say that, but they really are great!), two poodles, and a parrotlet.
  • I live in Nebraska, where it gets frigid in the winter, and steamy in the summer. And I love it.
  • When I'm not writing, I like to read, play games, and do creative stuff like draw, paint, or crochet. I also try to drag my family to the woods for a good hike now and then.

I'd love to hear from you! If you like, you can connect with me through Facebook or Twitter via the links in the side bar or you can email me at rebgowriter @ gmail dot com.
