We pulled up in front of the school, my daughter chatting away about her birthday party, still a few weeks away. As she climbed out of the car and slung her backpack over her shoulder, she suddenly remembered. "Oh, Happy Birthday, Mom!" I smiled and said, "Thank you," then listened to her scold me for not reminding her.

Birthdays sure aren't like they were when I was a kid. Just an excuse to do less housework and get out of cooking (or, I should say cleaning up after) dinner. If I'm really lucky I'll get a card in the mail or a call from Mom.

Usually my hubby gets me a gift. This year that gift will be in the form of a day trip to my sister's place for her anniversary/Labor Day party. That will be fun. I'll get to see my neice and nephew whom I haven't seen for several inches of their growth!

But for today, it's the same old routine (funny how I have a routine, even if it's not on purpose). And to top that off, hubby is determined to mow the lawn when he gets home from work, so I may not even see him untl around 7. So, I'll probably have to cook dinner anyway.

I guess today's just another day after all. Does that mean I can stay 31?
