Reader or book-lover?

Recently I finished reading Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, which is a strange, fascinating book that I thoroughly enjoyed.

But there was something about this book, besides the story, that made me fall in love with it: the binding. The textured cover, the beautiful end paper, the solid feel of the book in my hands; all these combine to make a gorgeous book that I can't imagine ever parting with.

That's when it hit me. I don't just love reading; I love books. Real books with real covers and real pages that can sit in a real place of honor on my book shelf. Books that can be inscribed, shared, passed around, handed down, or purchased at a yard sale for 50 cents.

I know that there are lots of people out there that are just like me. That's why I don't believe all the doom and gloom talk about how the e-book will kill the traditional book. Yes, there are changes happening and people are buying e-books more and more every day. I've even read a couple myself. But e-books are for readers.

Me? I'm a book-lover.

  1. I completely agree - there is nothing better than feeling a book in your hands. The wieght, crisp pages, and of course, that gorgeous smell that offers so may possibilities.

Kindles don't smell quite the same.

  2. I share your love of books. I must admit though, with the shaky state of the postal delivery service down here, immediate access to reading makes for a real treat to this thirsty literary soul. I love my Kindle more than I ever imagined I would.

  3. Ellora -- very funny!

Angie -- No judgement here. I definitely see the bright side of the e-reader. Maybe I need to send you another book. It might even get to you some day!

  5. It was once said that the new fangled gadget called television would never fully catch on. It did. Then it was said that television would one day rule every aspect of our lives. It doesn't. And I for one have no problem setting the remote aside for the heft of a good book. I own a Kindle myself and I enjoy it. However, there are nights when I hear the pages of my volumes whispering in the wind of my imagination. It is then that I am drawn to the bookshelf to loose my anxiety and fears in the worlds of pages and ink.
